Nothing beats real practice! I planned this “Overnight Hike”, 2.0 km out, stay in hammock overnight, 2.0 km back. I survived! You can too!

This was on one of the hottest days of the year! About 33 Degrees C, with a low of about 16 Degrees C.

The plan was to hike out about 2.0 km, find a place for the hammock, hike back out in the morning. I started the hike at about 1730 hrs. and spent 3.0 hours getting out there, drank about 1.5 liters of water on the way. Sunset was at 2100 hrs.

The pack was heavier than it should have been, filled with gear I didn’t really need. The trail was quite a bit more difficult than I expected but I found a spot, got the hammock set up in the dark and relaxed for a bit.

There was an extreme risk of “Fire” so no cooking planned, just one can of fruit and 2 more liters of water left to get home.

Finding a safe spot for the hammock was harder than I thought it would be, next time I’ll plan on setting up earlier than I did.

An “Extra Light” sleeping bag did the job, but just barely. I was already previously aware of the limits of hammocks which is why this hike was planned for the warmest of days!

It took 3.5 hrs. to get home, only because I took more breaks for water on the way back and I was starting in the morning so there was no rush since I had all day!

After returning home I checked the GPS, and the info was enlightening, I covered more than 7.6 km total! My travel speed was only 1/3 of the advertised time it takes to make this hike!
