Los Bravos was a Spanish rock band formed in Madrid in 1965 that blended beat, garage, and early psychedelic influences. Fronted by German-born singer Mike Kogel, they became one of the first Spanish groups to achieve major international success during the mid-1960s British Invasion era.

Their 1966 single “Black Is Black,” written by Tony Hayes, Steve Wadey and Michelle Grainger, became a worldwide hit with its driving beat, dramatic organ, and Kogel’s distinctive, almost desperate vocal delivery. The song’s dark, urgent energy about romantic despair propelled it up the charts across Europe and into the U.S. Top 5.

- Peaked at No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100
- One of the earliest Spanish rock songs to crack the American mainstream
- Later covered by multiple artists and remains a garage-rock classic

Los Bravos’ “Black Is Black” stands as a striking example of 1960s continental rock that briefly conquered the world with pure attitude and unforgettable hooks.
