David & David (sometimes stylized as David + David) was a short-lived American rock duo formed by Los Angeles studio musicians David Baerwald and David Ricketts. They released just one album, the critically praised Boomtown in 1986, before going their separate ways (though both later contributed to Sheryl Crow’s debut).
Their signature track, “Welcome to the Boomtown,” paints a sharp, cinematic picture of 1980s Los Angeles excess through vignettes of troubled characters caught up in wealth, addiction, and disillusionment. The song reached No. 37 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 8 on the Album Rock Tracks chart, helping the album earn gold certification.
- Released as the lead single from Boomtown in 1986
- Written by Baerwald and Ricketts; produced by Davitt Sigerson
- Features memorable guitar work and storytelling lyrics about the underbelly of the “boom”
- Remains their best-known (and essentially only) hit
A one-album wonder that still resonates decades later for its smart songwriting and vivid snapshot of an era.
