Powder Coating Slugs & Bullets, June 2022

Once you’ve cast your bullets, in most cases, they will need either Lubing or Powder Coating!

These are what I was going to powder coat!

There’s a whole variety of Round Ball, Shotgun Slugs & Rifle Bullets!

The shotgun stuff didn’t really need to be coated but there are some small reasons why you might want to do so like, safer to handle & size identification.

Anything that will be shot through “Rifling” really should be coated!

Here’s the gear!

Water bucket with basket for Quenching out of the oven if desired.

You can warm up your bullets prior to coating on top of the toaster oven a little bit. Only use a small amount of powder, you can always use more if you have to. I used about 1 teaspoon per batch and had very little waste.

Preheat your oven to about 375 – 400 degrees, you’ll be baking small batches like these for about 18 minutes. +/- a bit.

It goes pretty fast, if you are organized ahead of time.

This was done in 6 different batches with 3 different colors.

The results turned out great! For a first try!

Colors used were by Eastwood “Hot Coat”, Ford Light Blue, Medium Green, Signal Red. Proven winners!

All these were “Ladle Cast” with soft lead for use in the shotgun or low velocity rifle loads for small game.

All 3 color choices worked out great, when I purchased them I bought 3 x 8oz. plastic jars, they should last a while at 1 teaspoon per batch!

What was the overall outcome?
