A bow square is an essential tool for anyone into archery. It doesn’t matter if you are using a compound, longbow or recurve bow, you need a bow square.

Bow Squares

Bow squares are a pretty simple tool, they clip to your bow string and allow you to adjust your string nock to the correct place for your arrows. They can also be used to measure and adjust your string “Brace Height”.

Bow squares are not all created equal! In this post you will see a red one sold by “Carbon Express” and a black one sold by “Easton Archery”. Both of these are fine companies that offer a wide array of useful archery accessories.

As you can see, the red square clips onto the string above the string nock point in 2 places allowing it to be secure but clear of the area you want to work on. Thumbs Up! Carbon Express. This square is useful for all traditional string nock points including ugly, large, non-traditional, rubber ones like the ones shown.

The black square clips to the string above & below the area you need access to and as a result can still be used with traditional single or double string nock points. If you use rubber finger savers like I do it doesn’t really clip on properly.

Here’s a comparison of the two, one on top of the other.

I only became aware of the finger savers because I was watching a video where they were the chosen string nocks for “Bowfishing”. Think of it, you’re bowfishing, your hands get wet, well everything gets wet. No fussing around with tabs or gloves to worry about.

Eventually, I’ll just have a dedicated string for bowfishing as well as a regular one but that is not going to happen until fishing season is over.
