Charley Pride (1934–2020) was a pioneering American country music singer and the first Black superstar in the genre. Born in Sledge, Mississippi, he rose from sharecropping roots and a brief baseball career to become one of country’s biggest stars, with dozens of hits and induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

“Six Days on the Road” is a classic truck-driving anthem that Pride recorded live for his 1969 album In Person. Originally a 1963 hit for Dave Dudley, Pride’s energetic version captures the restless spirit of life on the highway with his signature warm baritone.
