Most saltwater fish are a lot more dangerous to handle than freshwater fish. They usually have a mouthful of teeth in addition to some really painful spines.
Get a lip gripper and keep it handy, even small fish can hurt like hell & draw huge amounts of blood! Once you got’em by the lip use your needlenose pliers to get that hook out.
