The Southeast Coast of Vancouver Island is relatively well protected from Tsunamis or Tidal Waves just because of the geography.

If you’re in the “Yellow Zone” you’re at risk!
Specific Risk by Area
- Victoria (Zone D): High risk due to low-lying areas and potential amplification in Saanich Inlet. Inland flooding is possible in areas like Oak Bay. Immediate evacuation to high ground is critical after a strong earthquake.
- Nanaimo to Campbell River (Zone E): Lower risk due to the protective effect of Vancouver Island. Waves are expected to be under 2 meters, but local inlets could amplify impacts. Residents should still be prepared for rapid evacuation.
- Campbell River: Proximity to the 1946 earthquake epicenter suggests some risk from local crustal faults, though less severe than west coast communities like Tofino.

Geography is everything! Have a great day!
