Intended Use

Primary use for this rifle is hunting small deer. It can also be employed as a long range varminter or with the correct ammunition, small game hunting.

Effective Range

I’d call this a 400 Yd. rifle. Most of my shooting will of course be much closer.

Some variations of this rifle came equipped with iron sights. Later models had different hole spacing for scope bases. These have been offered in a variety of calibers.

Safety

Safety is a traditional on/off switch located on the RH side. Easy access, easy to use.

Action

This is a Remington “Short Action”, so calibers like .243, .308 & 7mm08 are all good to go.

Bolt

Standard, 2 front locking lugs, Remington bolt.

Floorplate

As you can see this rifle is equipped with a hinged floorplate.

Trigger

Trigger is a traditional single stage. Please note the bolt release latch is located in front of the trigger and inside the trigger guard.

Muzzle

Standard, non-threaded factory muzzle.

Stock

I purchased this rifle used and I don’t think this is the original stock. The speckles on the stock lead me to believe this might be a McMillan but I am not sure.

Buttplate

Stock is fitted with a nice soft, rubber, non-slip recoil pad.

Sights

This rifle was equipped with iron sights but I did not get them with the rifle. I did get a set used but the rear sight interferes with the optic so they are not currently installed.

Optics

The rifle is currently fitted with a Bushnell Elite 6500, 4.5 – 30 X 50

Accessories

Utility Pouch

I like buttstock mounted ammo pouches! I have them installed on many firearms. If you buy them from China you can get them in a variety of colors and patterns for about $7.00 each.

Sling

Any simple sling will work on this rifle.

Bipod

Chinese copy of Harris. As seen, I have a quick release tilt lock handle installed.

Flash Hider

Not available.

Light

No light mounting option on this rifle. Not legal under normal hunting conditions.

Optics

Even though this rifle can be used with iron sights, the caliber really does deserve the use of good optics.

Ammunition Handling

You have to carry your ammo some way?

What would I Change?

Not much! This rifle has proven to a great value! I have wanted a Remington Model Seven since the early 80’s when they were first offered.

Ammunition

Factory

Standard .243 ammo

Handloaded

I have many different loads “Under Development”.

Shooting Results

Factory Ammunition

I have tested this rifle with a variety of factory loadings. It performed as expected.

I have changed out the optic for a much more powerful one since these targets were made so it’s back to the drawing board I guess.

Handloaded Ammunition

Subsonic Handloads

Subsonic loads are a priority for this rifle for small game hunting.

I have tested this rifle with my “Hammond Game Getter” and the results were very good.

Mid-Power Handloads

Longer range small game or short range varmints.

High Velocity “Varmint” Handloads

High Velocity light bullets for long range varmint shooting.

Full Power Handloads

Full Power large game hunting loads.

What’s Next?

Wow! This rifle has so many available options as far as handloading. Right now I want to focus on lightweight, subsonic, small game hunting ammo as well as a “Full Power” Hunting Loads.
